In healthy older subjects in a dose of 50 grams:
- Oral glucose significantly increased blood sugar and insulin levels. 
- While oral xylose showed no increase (similar to the baseline case of water). 
- The study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, suggests that xylose may represent an alternative sweetener to glucose in the management of Postprandial hypotension (PPH).
